The Museum Quarter in Amsterdam is the place to be for those taking Amsterdam city breaks and enjoy the works of the Old Masters as well as the revolutionary new artists alike. Amsterdam’s craft markets, high end boutiques and enchanting flower markets offer a shopper’s delight.

The city is relatively easy to get around in. Most of the leading attractions of the city can be accessed by walking to them or taking a ride on the tram in order to visit them. The city has a lot of different canals that encircle it. The activities that you can engage in, never cease when you are visiting Amsterdam.

If you appreciate the fine arts and simply adore history, Amsterdam can definitely provide you with the most exciting sites to visit. There are a ton of Van Gogh museums that feature the original pieces done by this mastermind. The Anne Frank house is another popular tourist attraction.

There are literally over 50 different museums that you can visit while in Amsterdam. The sites are probably one of the most exciting aspects of the entire city. Amsterdam is definitely a city that is unlike any other.

Amsterdam’s climate is not quite tropical but the seasons are unique to Amsterdam. Spring is the time to come and see the tulips in full bloom in the gardens, the flowerboxes and everywhere. This is also the time when locals start pulling out tables and chairs onto the pavements to create that special street cafe culture Amsterdam is known for.

Home to the artistic types and the bohemians and once also home to Rembrandt, The Jordaan is one of Amsterdam’s older suburbs where little houses and snaking canals are found amidst coffee shops and bookstores.

A great city to visit in the North east of England is Durham. Durham is famous for its castle and cathedral and as it is located on a hill, the name actually translates into hill home. Monks were the first to build in this area though settlements have been found that date to 2000BC. This peninsula is strategically advantageous for many reasons and a church was the first building constructed.

There is a legend that is associated with the founding of the city. Priests gad difficulties moving the bier of Saint Cuthbert and were told in a dream to lay him to rest at Dun Holm, the ancient dame of Durham. They had no idea where this spot was and eventually came across a milk mild that was able to take them to the spot. Once they found dun Holm they built a cathedral though this original building no longer stands.

It was not until a milkmaid asked them if they had seen her last cow as she had seen it last in dun Holm that the monks were able to find the spot. They then built the first Durham Cathedral though there are no remains of this cathedral.

Durham also was important during the fighting against the Scots. The castle at Durham is one of the only ones to never be breached and this spot was important for defending Northern England. One of the most famous battles of its time, the Battle of Neville’s Cross, was fought in Durham.

The strategic location of the city also made it important in the struggle between the British and the Scots. The castle at Durham is the only one that has never been breached and was very important to defending the north of the country. The Battle of Neville’s Cross was fought nearby and was one of the most famous battles of its time.

Durham castle was initially built to display Norman power in England as much of the area was prown to rebellions. This type of castle is a motte and bailey castle that was traditional of the Normans. For many years this was the Bishop’s Palace until the castle was given to Durham University as accommodation. The great Hall is quite famous as it is the largest in England and was designed by Bishop Antony Bek.

The castle then was given to the University where it was used as accommodation. The great Hall of the cathedral is very famous and is the largest found in England.

For accommodation in Durham check this list of Durham hotels.

Are you tired of the usual vacation routine you have been doing in the past years? Want to have a memorable vacation getaway? Then take your vacation on to the next level and experience the thrill of surf travel. Pack up your things and get ready to hop on a flight and go surfing!

Where To Surf. There are actually several places where you can enjoy great beaches and big waves. There are those that are near from home and some are would take you on the other side of the globe. Here are 2 excellent surfing spots you may want to visit as you decide to surf travel.

Hawaii is famously known as the Mecca of surfing by most surfers. It is considered as the capital of wave breaking and riding in the world. Being the motherland of this water sport, Hawaii never failed to give its visitors excellent waves. As a matter of fact, Hawaii has been providing an excellent surfing spot for decades already.

Hawaii is a composed of 4 large islands namely Hawaii, Kauai, Maui and Oahu. It has over 800 miles of coastlines stretched on these 4 islands. With a breathtaking view of its beaches along with a great warm climate, it surely attracts travelers that would want to relax as they are surrounded with a stunning view. More so, many would want to come and feel the warm waters as they ride on its great waves.

Maldives. If you want to enjoy the clear waters equipped with beautiful reefs and atolls, then you should visit Maldives. Maldives is composed of 26 atolls with 1190 islands on it. Its unique ringlike coral formation encircling a lagoon gives it a paradise-look impression to tourist.

The 90,000 km2 surf travel would surely look forward by the surfers that make Maldives as one of the hot spot for surfing. Maldives also offers 87 islands that were made into tourist resorts where you can relax, sun bathe and experience the wonderful scenery of the sea for those who are not into water sports.

As this is a surf travel vacation, you must be sure that you have all the necessary things you need to bring. You would not want to miss out something important that could ruin your supposedly perfect vacation. Aside from your swimwear and other personal belonging, you need to have your surfboard. But before anything else, you need to know what board you should bring. Choosing surfboards can either make your surf travel a lot of fun or it could ruin it out. The choice would really depend on your preference and the type of waves you will be expecting. Also, it is important to bring a back up surfboard in case your primary board breaks – which of course, you would not want to happen. It is recommended that you include in your surf travel packing list a small wave board and a small gun for larger wave riding. Ding repair kits are also essential and you can always purchase them in any surf shops.

In packing your surfboards, you need to have a travel board bag. You may also want to use high density foam cylinders which are usually used in swimming pools to pack and secure the rails of your surfboards.

Surfing is a hobby that everyone will surely love. There are certain places offering this service such as surf schools. Or you may want to try surfing holidays portugal.

If it wasn’t for the Dutch optician Hans Lipperhey, we might not have had either binoculars or opera glasses today. He first started manufacturing simple binoculars in 1608. These were not much more than two telescopes connected by a central bridge, but they led to many further modifications and improvements. His early binoculars had a magnification capability of x3. Within less than a year the Italian mathematician and inventor Galileo Galilee made another drastic stride forward by increasing the magnification ability of telescopes to x30.

Initially binoculars had one major drawback: Although they allowed for a much wider field of view, they used two convex lenses, which inverted the image! It took more than 100 years for the next major step forward: in 1617 Anton Schyrle constructed binoculars with an additional lens that re-inverted the image. More than–0 years later a certain John Dollond of England started manufacturing achromatic (color-free) lenses and with that solve another problem bugging binoculars – that of color distortion.

One of the final important developments in binocular technology happened when the Italian gunnery officer Ignazio Porro invented prismatic binoculars, thereby once again increasing the field of vision dramatically and making much larger magnification possible.

We don’t find any mention of opera glasses in the printed media before the 1730 – in London. These rather primitive opera glasses were not binoculars – they were mini-sized Galilean telescopes. People used them for decorative purposes as much as to watch opera. The bodies were mostly highly decorated with numerous gems, enamel, mother of pearl and ivory.

It wasn’t until 23 in Vienna that we first find mention of binocular-type opera glasses. These were in fact simply two small telescopes with a bridge connecting them. The telescopes had to be focused individually by extending the tubes.

They soon became highly fashionable. Going to the opera without one of these was social suicide. The designs became increasingly elaborate. Often you would find an optician, a painter and a goldsmith working on the glasses before they were finally ready for their discerning owners. Once at the opera, they were not only used to watch the stage though – they were also regularly used to check out the other guests to make sure there wasn’t by any chance someone with a more elaborate set of opera glasses!

The design was further improved substantially when it became possible to adjust both lenses at the same time using a small wheel in the center. This made opera glasses even more popular and soon everyone who was anyone had to have one. They were highly regarded as gifts – as one can clearly see when you study the inscriptions on many of these glasses dating back to the 17th century.

Nowadays there is a wide array of opera glasses available. You can get them in virtually any color you want. They come in many different styles and materials. Strangely enough, monoculars are still popular, as are opera glasses with handles or reading lights. You even get them fitted with a jealousy glass – so you can watch another person in the audience without being seen!

Jeff B. has always loved the theater and opera, he currently helps run an opera glasses retail site where they sell opera glasses. Including Opera Glasses with handle, flashlight, chain and more!

Opera Glasses are similar to binoculars but they are made for being able to see performances on stage. In old opera houses seats placed in balconies that were subsequently cheaper were very far away from the stage. In some they were so far away on the figures could be seen from that distance but seeing facial features, and thus part of the acting, was impossible to make out. Opera glasses would enable those people in the peanut gallery to see on stage much better to the point of seeing the facial expressions of the actors or singers. They have been popular since the 50’s.

Binoculars and Opera Glasses have several major differences including the fact that opera glasses are smaller and made to be unnoticed or be tucked away where no one could see them until the performance started. Today there are several types that look like a flat case easily carried in a women’s bag or in a suit pocket, but touch a button and they pop up. There are some that fold up on each other and hard to notice unless they are fully pulled out and ready to use. Some manufactures make reproductions of older models that have a rod from which to hold them called lorgnettes enabling the view to hold with one hand. This rod folds and practically disappears when not in use.

Opera glasses are easily purchased even in today’s market. A cheap model may cost under $100 US dollars, at around $50, but they can go up in price to hundreds of dollars. The expensive types will have better optics and magnifications and probably be a little more fashionable as well. Vintage opera glasses can cost increasingly more dollars just because of the fact they are old. Just make sure they still work well.

Many opera houses and theaters have opera glasses for rent and the price for renting is generally inexpensive. If you frequent the opera or the theater often it may be better to own a pair, but if you only go every so often renting may be the thing for you. It is also suggested if thinking about purchasing a pair to rent different types to see which will be more favorable to your liking. Some people like the ones better that are on the long rod and employ the use of only one hand better, while others don’t mind using both hands. Some people find they don’t even like using them at all.

Binoculars differ from opera glasses in magnification. The system used in opera glasses is a simple system whereas that used in binoculars is quite extensive. The system used in opera glasses is based on the simple system invented by Galileo called the Galilean optical system. The images will not be as sharp with opera glasses but you can still see most of what you need to on the stage

China is the biggest exporter of opera glasses today. Most modern opera glasses have a 3 X magnification that works well in concert halls and auditoriums. There are some that actually go up to 5 X but they cost much more money. Some glasses focus and others don’t. The ones that do not focus usually have a small LED light situated between the barrels for the eye. This is a nice feature to allow you to read the program in limited light without disturbing anyone around you. People with good vision can use these but those who do not should look into the focus type. You can use these with or without glasses or contacts and still be able to see. The focus type will not have this as the focus knob is located between the barrels and there is no room.

Cases usually come with new opera glasses and the vintage type will also have them. Soft cases are available as well as the hard type with a velvet lining. Antique glasses can be made of ivory or cloisonne enamel or they may have jewels attached or be decorated with gold or silver. These opera glasses were made to be elegant although you were not supposed to notice them. Either type make a great gift for those who frequent the opera, ballet or theater.

Jeff B. has always loved the theater and opera, he currently helps run an opera glasses retail site where they sell opera glasses. Including Opera Glasses with handle, flashlight, chain and more!

A town as well as a port, situated on the firth of Clyde, southwest Scotland, Ayr- south Ayshire is the largest settlement in Ayrshire. With a 46,000 population, this county town is an administrative centre for the south Ayrshire council area. Surrounded by adjoining towns like Prestwick (infamous for its golf and aviation industry) and Alloway, known for the county’s association with the poet Robert burns, Ayr was one of four Scottish towns competing for the status of a city commemorating the golden jubilee of queen Elizabeth II in 2002. Unfortunately it lost to Stirling.

The county of Ayr has a very rich history, shortly after the first castle was built by Ayr’s riverside, king William, the lion created a burgh here. The very first parliament for Scotland was also held here by Robert the Bruce.

Since the early ages, Ayr has remained a busy port county. Wool, fish and hide were the main exports whereas salt and wine were imported to be distributed throughout the Ayrshire. Textile as well as shoe making industry also prospered in the area for a while though they couldn’t hold out against the sands of time.

Being a riverside town very near to the coast, the county of Ayr enjoys very mildewed weather. The close proximity of the sea ensures that winters in Ayr are mild and summers here are cool. Most of the land in the county is flat and low, though the outlying land to the south a bit more elevated than the all the rest of Ayrshire. Due to the flat terrain, there is close to no chance of fog or mist settling in, even snowfall in Ayr is a rare happening.

Part of the historic port in Ayr still functions today, its main exports being coal and fish. Ayr has been a hub for shopping for all of south Scotland, having a port in times past and also being the first county to have a functioning departmental store since 1896.

The county is well connected. With three main roads connecting the port county from outlying areas, though ferry services are not yet available, the county has its own railway station. Just two miles away from Ayr lies the Glasgow Prestwick international airport which effectively connects the area with the rest of Scotland, or one could drive 35 miles to Glasgow airport whence many other locations worldwide are accessible.

Improvements to the county of Ayr are slow but constant; tourists can enjoy the beach with various facilities including shelters, pleasure cruises, lavatory accommodation, sea wall, sweet meat machines as well as bath machines. For sure Ayr is the most favorite tourism spot in the area save perhaps Glasgow.

The city of Glasgow and located in the central lens of Scotland along the banks of the Clyde. This is one of the most populous cities in the entire United Kingdom and Scotlands largest city. Originally belonging to the archdiocese of Glasgow city was originated, as was overturned in Scotland and was the first developed as part of the archdiocese of Glasgow, which was an extension of the Archbishop of York and was initiated in 11th century.

The city was greatly involved in the Scottish enlightenment period of the 18th century. This period involved an awakening of an intellectual sort and helped Scotland to become one of the leading intellectual countries in the entire world. The College of Glasgow was an instrumental part of the enlightenment period which witnessed Scotland becoming one of the most literate countries in Europe.

Glasgow further grew in the 18th century as a result of international trade. Trade with the United States in the 18th century and later was greatly affected by the city of Glasgow. This was further spurred by the industrial revolution. Glasgow grew to be a major power in ship building and engineering. This helped to make Glasgow a world class city.

During this period Glasgow earned the title of the second city of the British Empire. Glasgow still plays a major role in the business and financial segments of Scotland today. This city is also one of the prime tourist destinations in the world.

In recent items Glasgow has become a major tourist destination for travelers from all over the world. One of the reasons for this is the grand structures that make up Glasgow’s proud architectural history. There are many structures in Glasgow that provide testimony to worlds long gone. One of the most visited of these structures is the Provands Lordship.

The Provands Lordship is regarded the oldest home in all of Glasgow. This home is now operated as a museum and is believed to be part of the Glasgow church structures. Along with the church and the college the Lordship provides some great examples of gothic architecture. The home is believed to have housed clergy from the church of Glasgow and to have provided temporary quarters for clergy visiting the area.

The Church of Glasgow is the oldest structure in the city. It is one of the few churches that were built prior to the Enlightenment that are still fully intact. This however was not the first church built in Glasgow. There was a church building in this exact location built by St. Mungo. St. Mungo is the patron saint of Glasgow. These three structures are part of the reason Glasgow is a world-class travel destination and why Glasgow is recognized for it’s incredible architecture.

Over the past ten years, more and more people have visited the countries to the east of the European Union, and believe it or not Slovakia has been rather popular. For example, Bratislava has been recognized as a great city, and is only 60 kilometers away from Vienna. Most people will be able to get to that area without a problem. Of course there is also a desire to see some of the lesser known parts of the country, making Levoca a prime place to visit.

Levoca has a relatively small population in that it is below 15,000. It is a historical area, and is almost like something you would see in a picture. It is 350 kilometers from Bratislava, and is the main part of so called the Gothic Route. There are also some national parks nearby, such as Slovak Paradise and High Tatras, which are great for tourists regardless of the time of year.

Levoca was recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and while it’s not the most popular vacation spot on Earth, everyone who has been there believes it deserves this recognition. Inside the town you will find that there are still six watch towers from the old world, and many of the buildings still have their original walls, which date back several hundred years.

Right behind the Baroque church and an old monastery from the eighteenth century you will find the Kosice Gate, which is the major portal in the town. In the town square you will find the 14th century St Jakob church, and the Renaissance town hall near it. There are many other incredible buildings to take in, and even the ‘Cage of Shame’ in the center of town.

Within the church of St Jakob you will see yet another amazing site. It is a Gothic wooden carved alter, which is easily the largest of it’s type. The alter was carved by the craftsman Paul.

Another great site to see is the Cage of Shame. It is something that you will not soon forget, and it is a relic from the past-an unpleasant past as it may have been. It is a relic from the times when common criminals were subject to public humiliation.

Wherever you wander in this peaceful jewel of a town, you’ll be walking through time, and you will soon come to understand why Levoca is such an important spiritual and social part of Slovakian heritage. It was here, after all, that the Slovakian National Anthem was first sung in the 19th century.

Discerning visitors – and those with an eye for genuine value for money – will want to seriously consider the Hotel U Leva when they are looking for accommodation for their stay in Levoca. Not only is it conveniently situated in the town square, directly opposite the Church of St Jakob, but it is also a beautiful building in its own right. A recently and sympathetically restored medieval construction, the Hotel U Leva provides elegant and spacious rooms, many of which have views across the town square. As well as offering stylish, classical charm, however, the hotel also makes sure guests have the modern touches that many consider vital in their hotels. For example, rooms are equipped with satellite televisions with in excess of 200 channels in various languages and high speed internet access. There is a fitness and sauna centre, a pharmacy, souvenir shop, laundry and excellent facilities for disabled guests. The hotel’s restaurant is probably the best in town, and serves great breakfasts and has an extensive menu in the evenings. When you add in the friendliness of the staff, many of whom speak excellent English, then you will begin to appreciate why the Hotel U Leva has become so popular.

This town of Levoca isn’t really a ‘hot spot’, and that’s really a big part of why people visit it. Though it isn’t well known, it is a container of Slovakian history, and the people there are quite welcoming. So go take a look at this city, you won’t regret it.

During the travelling over the Eastern Europe we have luckily found this gem – Levoca town and its surroundings. We were very happy with the stay in Hotel U Leva – www.uleva.sk. It was the best accommodation we had during the journey.
